The Divide Movie Story Line:- Xavier Gens’ thriller is based on a situation in the aftermath of an apocalypse. The film opens with a group of nine tenants of a New York high rise building escaping a nuclear attack, by seeking refuge in the basement of the same building. With boulders falling all over the place, their routes of making their way out of the basement have been sealed. Graphically demonstrating a lot of violence in the very beginning, the film moves on to depict the group stuck in the basement without any help. As we watch The Divide online, we find their cries deaf ears, a fact that fills them with frustration to the hilt. The film here depicts human emotions of frustration and despair, when the soul admits a checkmate from life and recognizes the end knocking its doors. As hours pass by, the stuck strangers are overtaken by feelings of madness as they take turns to take it out at each other pumped up by both, psycho-sexual and physical torture. While getting into the basement, the men had taken supplies with them to eat and live on for a few hours. The supplies were slowly coming to an end, and tensions starts mounting in that foul smelling chamber of theirs. Their acts turn meaner, as their souls are slowly conquered by feelings of hopelessness and death waiting to engulf them, once and for all. Slowly, they appear more and more inhumane towards each other, and seem to be giving in completely to all the frustration boiling inside.. Only one among them was capable of holding on to his emotions, his character and his behavior by not submitting to all the frustration like his comrades. He knows there is a tiny chance to escape the basement, and with little hope of salvation outside, he decides to go ahead and try his luck for a heroic escape.

The Darkest Hour Movie Story Line:- With an alien invasion so gruesome that it threats complete obliteration of human race, or serving enslavement under extra-terrestrial beings, The Darkest Hour is one of a kind of sci-fi movie. It eulogizes the grit and courage of humans not just to resist alien invasion, but to fight the supremely powerful breeds out of the planet. The film centers on a group of five tourists, whose visit to Moscow pits them against an unpredictable alien invasion. The only way out for them is to take on the beasts and destroy their defenses. Will the gang of survivors accomplish the humongous task of saving the planet from aliens? What kind of dreaded hurdles will the young guns face before they can crash the main defense system of the aliens? Watch The Darkest Hour online to find if the group manages to outcast the long shadows of darkness that are hell-bent on consuming the entire human race. The title epitomizes the metaphorical meaning of the devastation caused by this alien invasion, including the attack on the power supply stations throughout the city. The gang not only faces the wrath of the aliens, but also jostles against the menacing darkness, triggered by the destruction of power grids. The 3D movie dishes out some incredible adventure sequences that have never been portrayed on celluloid before.

The Darkest Hour Movie Review:- My review is going to be extremely biased because I love these kinds of movies. I thought Skyline was quite entertaining and Battle Los Angeles pretty good, though I never liked Independence Day for some reason.

The movie derives heavily from other movies in the genre. We get the zapper from War of the World that zaps humans to ash, iridescent aliens from Skyline but they're yellow here, and the empty city from Vanishing on 7th Street except that the city here is Moscow. Similar to the above movies, we follow a small group of survivors as they try to escape the human extermination. The alien invaders eschew WMDs and choose "hand to hand" combat, patrolling as near invisible ball of sparks and zapping humans to ash as they find them.

One thing I should probably clarify is that this is a sci-fi movie and not a horror movie. I am making this distinction because the aliens though deadly and powerful do have their limitations that create rules for surviving and fighting them.

Another thing I noted was that the movie really respects its Russian characters even though the movie is presented through American eyes. I noticed that Timur Bekmambetov was a producer in the movie and had probably something to do with it. We meet the heroic soldiers fighting the aliens, the resourceful young girl, and the crazy scientist using homemade equipment to figure out the aliens. This is quite refreshing since most American productions in foreign countries suffer from this malaise that they make the local characters weak and one dimensional.

If you like this genre, this is an above average movie in the genre and quite entertaining. I don't think it manages to rise above its genre but as an action, sci-fi movie with 3D and lots of special effects it's worth the ticket price.
